Wednesday 21st and Thursday 22nd February

8:30pm

Michaelhouse Centre

Local stories of injustice, told through urban and contemporary dance.

The show starts with true stories of three local women who faced the court system for very different cases of asylum, domestic violence and forced adoption. Dancers communicate the emotional and bureaucratic challenges involved in a court case, and in telling a testimony against a backdrop of vicious tabloid and online trolling.

We show these three cases as part of a multitude of similar stories, as a reflection of a system that is mired in prejudice, and that still works to support the interests of the most powerful social groups.

To counteract the struggles these women faced, which were at times lonely and exhausting, we look to the power of solidarity and collective defiance.

With a fusion of
passinho, hiphop, voguing, contemporary dance and theatre of the oppressed, we invite you to sit back and enjoy a powerful and vivacious performance, and to keep the beat for three critical campaigns.

To find out more about the cases that the work is inspired by, please see the following articles (these are generic stories that talk about a national perspective on the issues, and write explicitly on the issues involved)
