We will be holding a session to write ‘notes of love’ to survivors of sexual assault and rape, as part of the My Body Back Project. In the same session, we will be discussing the different services and forms of support available in Cambridge for survivors.
In 2014, Pavan Amara started the My Body Project. The project runs specialist services for survivors of rape and sexual assault, including a cervical screening clinic and maternity clinic. They also run Café V, a quarterly session for women to learn about loving their bodies after violence.
Their website writes this about Notes of Love: "At the Women of the World Festival 2015 we launched our first ever campaign: Notes of Love. We’re gathering thousands of supportive and loving messages from the public, all written to women who have experienced sexual violence. All these wonderful messages of empathy, compassion and kindness will be displayed at our clinic, workshops and specialist women’s services across the UK.
When women enter the centres, they’ll see our Notes of Love. When they leave, they’ll be invited to choose a note and take it with them, for whenever they feel the need for support. However vulnerable or alone they may feel, we want women to have a visual reminder that there are other women sending solidarity, understanding and love their way.”
The campaign is absolutely beautiful, and the work MBB does is truly groundbreaking. Please come and show your support, all are welcome. If you would like to submit a note, but are unable to be present, please email Eva, eo311@cam.ac.uk
